River City Pageant LogoPageant Workshop

What Will Be Learned?

Friday evening, April 12th, we will be conducting a workshop that will be helpful to everyone from first-timers who have never competed in a pageant before to more experienced contestants excited to participate in a Benefit Pageant. During our workshop we will be discussing everything you need to know for all of our required events.

Required Events

Pre-Teen Delivering Personal Introduction

Overview of Events

We will be walking you through the "routines" that contestants will be using for each required event, where to go, when to pause, and the timing for each part of competition. Someone will demonstrate examples of each event so you can get ideas of what you would like to do. Each stage of the competition is fairly simple, there will be tape or stickers on the floor to follow, and open stage time for contestants to practice. Our plan is to try to have "Stage Managers" available both Friday and Saturday who can help contestants practice routines and give them tips.

Purpose of Events

We will also be explaining the purpose of each event and how contestants can benefit from their participation in River City Pageant and what they will be getting out of the experience. We want to make sure contestants get the most out of their experience and believe that part of that includes understanding how benefit pageantry can be a way to develop self confidence as well as learn new skills and form new friendships.

Walking Formats

There are really only two basic walking formats for required events at the pageant and even those are very similar. Theme Wear does not have a pre-set walking pattern, but you are welcome to create your own routine, make it up as you go during competition, or use the same layout set-up as for Formal Wear.

Personal Introduction and On-Stage Question require going on stage only once. A contestant will come out to a marked location center stage, pause briefly and then head to the front of the stage to be handed a microphone for their Personal Introduction. Once they have completed their intro, they will draw a question from a bowl, give a short answer, and then exit the stage.

Personal Intros should be kept under 1 minute and answers under 30 seconds.

Personal Introduction and Question Format

Formal Wear Routine is relaxed and simple. Contestants will come when the Emcee announces their name out to a marked location center stage, pause briefly and then head to the front of the stage to do a circle turn. They will then pause at the front of the stage to look at the judges and then exit the stage once the Emcee says their name and contestant number for a second time.

Formal Wear routines usually take about 1 minute per contestant.
