Inspiring Giving and Passion for Our Parks

New trees in Manito Park

Spokane Parks Foundation provides funding and support to all parks within Spokane County. They have been investing in parks since 1951. The Spokane Parks Foundation is the premier foundation to provide resources for vibrant, healthy, accessible recreation programs and parks throughout the region.

As an independent, non-partisan advocate they fill the gap between what our parks need to thrive and what annual budgets can provide. They currently serve 110 parks – providing the dollars to ensure that everyone can enjoy these valuable community assets for generations to come.

The parks of Spokane live on the generosity of the people who enjoy them and River City Pageant is proud to be a benefit pageant helping to not only raise money in support of Spokane Parks Foundation, but also to bring awareness to the excellent services they provide to the public.

Mission:

The Spokane Parks Foundation cultivates the health, growth and continued enjoyment of our communities by inspiring giving and passion for our parks.

Values:

  • Providing Access
  • Advocating & Collaborating
  • Raising Funds
  • Knowledge & Education

History:

In 1951 Spokane City Park Board President Laurence Hamblen appointed a committee to create a foundation, led by A. William Morris, Thomas J. Meenach and Joel E. Ferris to provide support for parks and recreation.

By May of 1952 the Spokane Park and Recreational Foundation had received their first gifts, and they were off and running.

Since then, they have invested over $2 million in parks throughout Spokane County - including new park structures, park enhancements and programs that keep parks viable.

Today, the Spokane Parks Foundation is involved in projects not only in City of Spokane, but throughout Spokane County, supporting park-related endeavors for municipalities throughout the County.
